The hummus at the famous, veteran and beloved Issa Hummus Restaurant, is prepared according to a family recipe that is passed down in the Issa family from generation to generation.
The small and amazingly clean Hummus Restaurant is located in the Farhi Square, at the entrance to the market of the Old City of Acre (Akko).
The Hummus Restaurant was founded in 1950 by grandfather Issa, presently the place is managed by a third generation offspring, the grandson Issa, together with his children, who in due course will probably continue the family tradition of hummus preparation and will serve it to the hungry guests that arrive to their restaurant, not only from Acre but from all over the country as well, following the rumor stating that the hummus served at the Issa Hummus Restaurant is one of the tastiest and praiseworthy in Acre.
Issa, who suckled hummus together with his mother’s milk and spent time as a child at the Hummus Restaurant where his father followed his grandfather’s footsteps each and every day, stands by the counter and at a pace that wouldn’t embarrass a marathon runner, feeds the many diners filling the restaurant. Some of them he knows very well, they are regular diners and he knows who loves what. His children, who assist him, and some serve as waiters, award the diners a rapid, courteous and attentive service.
The Hummus Restaurant is open every day of the week except for Wednesdays, and it also serves, in addition to hummus – mahluta, labaneh, ful (cooked broad beans)and mashausha with an egg, according to the utmost family tradition.
