Here are some news that may please city lovers of coffee and snacks! On your way to a vacation in the Western Galilee, on the main road between Acre and Nahariya, a minute and a half from Kibbutz Shomrat, a new and beautiful coffee house awaits you, offering choice goat-cheese snacks and a special menu. Welcome to the Alto Dairy Visitors’ Center. You will just love it!
We arrived at the Alto Dairy just as family members, Kibbutz residents and owners of the dairy, begun moving it to its new abode, a unique structure formerly used as the mythical Kibbutz kitchen and currently, after renovation and styling, serves as a productive dairy, factory store, visitors center and coffee house, all under one roof. Ariel and Yonat, the girls Shaked and Il’il and the boys Avital and Yahli are all members of one family; pleasant people with bright eyes and an innocent smile. They are always quick to offer visitors a thin slice of cheese from one of their more special cheeses, and a visitor smiling in gratitude, is all they need to make them real happy.
The story of Alto began when Ariel, a cattleman at heart, decided to focus on goat’s milk. As a thorough student at heart and a declared autodidact, he took some vocational training, contacted experts in Israel and abroad and steadily built and fostered the small goat dairy farm until it gradually grew and developed. Overtime the visitors’ center and café opened up under the management of Shaked, the eldest daughter.
A family boutique dairy producing cheeses from superb Galilean goat milk.
The place comprises a factory store, an enchanting, Kosher café serving quality coffee and rich breakfasts – sandwiches, quiches, pastries and desserts.
The Alto Dairy is a sanctuary for goats and their produce. Apparently it is already common knowledge that goat milk is more suitable for human digestion, and has great benefits for the body. This is a starting point from which one can only expand, since if a product that is healthy is tasty and especially qualitative as well – what could be better!
In the pasteurization and cheese production rooms at Alto Dairy cheeses are made from choice Galilean goat milk, employing work methods customary in rural areas of Europe. There are more than 15 types of hard cheese, as well as fresh cheeses and thick low-acidity yogurts, alongside a special variety of low-fat goat milk cheeses.
Add to that the landscape of fields, rural environment, the elegant, air-conditioned hall emitting the aroma of coffee, rich breakfasts and a variety of quiches and cheese products; what a wonderful way to start a Western Galilee vacation.
