Inside the restaurant, with its thick ancient walls, we managed to get a seat by the window, so that we could take advantage of the breaks between dishes served to the table and watch the vibrant traffic of the many tourists beginning or ending their Acre tour precisely in this spot. We recommend that you too try the “tasting” menu offered by the restaurant. It is a worthwhile experience.
Uri Jeremias, the owner of the restaurant, whose long white beard has become his “trade mark”, is a sharp person and an enthusiastic entrepreneur. He likes his guests and often engages in conversation with them. At times he may even join a table of guests on their first visit to the restaurant, and amuse them with tales of adventure from his past. Uri has a very original and refreshing social and political point of view; so it’s no wonder that he had also initiated, amongst others, the establishment of the unique “Efendi” boutique hotel, only a few hundred yards away from the restaurant, considered a tourism and architectural gem.
This famous restaurant needs not our humble recommendation. Its reputation has traveled far in the world, no to say in Israel. What people might not know is that the restaurant’s prices are not expensive, but rather fair and some dishes are even priced surprisingly low. This we found out during our visit to the restaurant. However, the variety of dishes, many of which are original and cannot be found in other fish restaurants, is not easy to describe.
Therefore, one of the superior moments we experienced during the meal will suffice. This happened when the “Cookie San Jack”, that very special shellfish whose taste remains in our mouth to this moment, was served to the table; the sauce in which the shellfish was enveloped on the warm service plate constituted a perfect setting for an unforgettable culinary tasting.
