Jasmine House, entered via 44 steps, is a splendid home of a prosperous people who lived there in the 19th century, which is elevated and overlooks the alleyways of Akko, its mosques and its turrets.
Jasmine House is designed in home hospitality style, or as it is known universally “Home Stay”, in which the guests are hosted in the home of the host. Mariam lives in this house in her spacious room, the door of which is always open for anyone who wishes to enter.
An impressive lobby, with stone walls, a high decorated ceiling and marble flooring, is the room in which Mariam receives the guests and tells them about the house and herself. The room is furnished with minimal furniture, on the walls hang pictures of Akko painted by Mariam’s brother who lives overseas, which express his longing for the city. The ambiance is old-time Mediterranean and the only thing that reminds us that we are in the 21st century is the television set and the air conditioner.
Jasmine House has 4 accommodation rooms, including one suite, all of which have stone walls and decorated floor tiling however each of them has a different design to the others. In all the rooms is a double bed, air conditioner and television; in one of them is a remaining authentic fresco and flooring from the Ottoman period.
The bathroom and toilet are shared between all the guests.
In the spacious bathroom there are clean fragrant towels and cupboards full of bath products, starting from shampoo and conditioner through liquid soaps, tooth brushes and toothpaste up to and including personal hygiene products. In all the rooms there are bath robes for the guests.
The kitchen is beautiful and eclectic, combining east and west. Alongside jars with a variety of spices and Middle Eastern cookies there is also modern equipment such as an espresso machine and a water filter device, a food processor and other equipment. The kitchen is available for the guests including a beautiful set of plates. Mariam’s only condition is to return it as clean as you found it.
One of the coolest places in Jasmine House is the large terrace on the roof, overlooking the Christian Quarter and Akko Bay. At twilight, when it starts to get dark and the lights come on, the view is breathtaking and enchanting.
The prices in Jasmine House: NIS 350 per couple midweek, NIS 400 at the weekend (for the suite – NIS 500 midweek, 600 at the weekend). These prices are more than fair and are offered with the objective of being affordable for all.
The guests are invited to prepare their own breakfast in the kitchen or to order from Jasmine in advance and for additional charge.
There is the option of an authentic Arab meal cooked by Mariam for 8-40 guests, coordinated in advance.
Please note: 44 high steps lead up to the house.
