The memorial site for the 14 Palmach fighters who fell on the “Night of the Bridges”; the site is located facing the Achziv coast and in its centre an impressive and unique monument upon which the names of the fallen are inscribed and the story of the daring action on the Night of the Bridges as written by the author S. Izhar. Adjacent to the site is a recreational camp site accessible for those with disabilities.

As a protest against the restrictions to the illegal immigration to Israel after the Holocaust the Palmach planned, on the night of June 16-17 1946, to damage the 11 bridges along the length of the Mandate borders of Israel. One of the bridges was the railway and road bridge over the Kziv River, adjacent to the Arab villabe A-Ziv.
The operation did not go according to plan, when firing in the direction of the force caused an explosion of the mine that was attached to the bridge and caused the death of 13 of the fighters. Another fighter, Yehiam Weiss, was killed prior to the explosion as a result of a direct shot in his direction. The Galilean kibbutz is named after him.
The Yad Leyad site, in memory of the 14 Palmach fighters who fell in the Night of the Bridges operation is located half a kilometres north to Kibbutz Gesher Haziv. You will not be able to miss the entrance to the site from the road. The monument constructed by the KKL there was designed by the architect Asher Hiram, and it includes the story of the battle as it was written by the author S. Izhar.
Adjacent to the site the KKL established a recreational camp site also accessible to those with disabilities. On the site there are clearly placed explanatory signposts about the area in general and the Kziv River in particular. From the site you will be able to walk along the walking route for about 1 km which passes over the the railway bridge, the Anetilla Well and the water reserve pool and quarries in memory of the fallen on the Night of the Bridges.
For the serious hikers at the Yad Leyad site you will find in fact the first station of the “water to the sea” route which leads from Achziv beach via the Kziv River, Mount Meron and the Amud river – and ends on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The length of the route is three to five walking days with sleeping outdoors. Only for those interested.
To reach the site, drive on Road 4 in the direction of the Ziv Bridge. 400 meters after the entrance to the Kibbutz, turn left towards the Achziv National Park. From here continue by foot until the river bed of the Kziv River, and follow it under the road bridge. Immediately after the road bridge turn left (north) and you will reach the site, some 350 meters from the parking lot.
